No. You cannot buy a new QuickBooks Desktop 2024 Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Mac Plus subscription from Intuit, and you have not been able to since September 30, 2024. Enterprise is the only QuickBooks Desktop product Intuit still sells to new customers. If you already have a subscription, nothing was taken from you: you can keep renewing, and you still get security updates.
That is the whole answer. The rest of this page covers the parts that trip people up: the 2025 version that does not exist, the cheap licenses that will never register, and what actually breaks the day your version sunsets.
What Intuit stopped selling, and when
After September 30, 2024, Intuit stopped selling new US subscriptions to four products:
- QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus
- QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus
- QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus
- QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll
That deadline had already slipped once, from July 31, 2024. It is also US-only.
Here is what that announcement did not do, despite what half the search results will tell you.
It did not sunset the product line. Intuit’s own FAQ says it “applies only to new purchases, not a discontinuation (sunset) of this QuickBooks Desktop product line.” Existing subscribers keep renewing and keep getting security updates, product updates, and support. If someone told you your Pro Plus subscription dies in 2026, they were wrong, or they were selling you a migration.
It did not touch Enterprise. New customers can still buy Enterprise today, by phone or online.
There is no QuickBooks Desktop 2025
Stop looking for it. There was no 2025 release of Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Mac Plus. There is no QuickBooks Desktop 2025 download page, no license key, no sealed box.
The tell is in Intuit’s own support docs. Its current discontinuation article tells existing Desktop Plus and Enterprise subscribers they “receive version 2024 at no extra cost as part of your annual plan.” When the vendor’s own upgrade path in mid-2026 still points at 2024, that is your answer.
You will find blogs confidently calling 2024 “the last version ever.” That is a reasonable guess, not a fact. Intuit has published no such commitment. What is true: no 2025 shipped, and nothing suggests a 2026 is coming.
The Enterprise front door (and what it costs you)
Enterprise is the only legitimate way to become a new QuickBooks Desktop customer in 2026. Intuit’s support pages say it outright: “Intuit no longer sells QuickBooks Pro or Premier to new customers. If you don’t have an active QuickBooks Desktop subscription, we suggest you get QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.”
Read that as what it is. The cheap seat is gone, the expensive seat remains, and Intuit would rather you land on QuickBooks Online anyway.
Enterprise does genuinely run on your hardware with your company file. It also costs several times what Pro Plus cost, every year, forever. For a two-person shop that just wants to keep invoicing the way it has since 2009, that is a bad trade. For a manufacturer running advanced inventory and assemblies, it may be the only thing that works.
Where people still find licenses, and which ones are traps
This is where the money gets set on fire, so read carefully.
Anything sold online is fraudulent, per Intuit. Not our opinion. Intuit’s FAQ says that after September 30, 2024, it stopped selling QuickBooks Desktop software online, then adds: “If you bought QuickBooks Desktop online from a vendor other than Intuit Inc., please call 1-800-4INTUIT so we can take action against the fraudulent site.” Marketplace listings for “QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024, lifetime license” are exactly what that sentence describes.
The used-license trap nobody warns you about. Buying an old sealed copy of Pro 2021 on eBay to dodge subscriptions sounds clever. It does not work, and the reason is buried in an Intuit support doc: discontinued products cannot be registered for the first time. Re-registration works only if that exact license was registered before and you are reinstalling it.
So the never-opened box is the worst possible purchase. Never registered, version discontinued, and registration is the one thing you cannot do. You bought a coaster.
What actually works. A license already registered to you. That is the entire list. Reinstalling your own registered copy on a new machine is supported, and Intuit’s migrator tool exists for exactly that.
Before you reinstall anything: back up your company file, and copy it somewhere that is not the machine you are about to rebuild.
What happens when QuickBooks Desktop 2024 support ends
Your software does not brick. Your company file opens, you enter transactions, you run reports. Everything that talks to Intuit’s servers stops.
QuickBooks Desktop 2023 crossed that line on May 31, 2026. The sunset covered Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Mac Plus, and Premier Accountant Plus 2023, plus Enterprise Solutions 23.0. What went dark, per Intuit: payroll tax tables, payroll subscriptions, online banking, credit card and eCheck processing, emailing forms, and security updates.
Payroll is the real risk. Frozen tax tables do not announce themselves. They quietly compute wrong withholding, and you find out through a 941 that does not reconcile or a W-2 that is wrong. Running payroll on a sunset version is not saving money, it is deferring an IRS problem. That is the one case where you actually should move.
When does 2024 sunset? Intuit has not published a date. Blogs list September 30, 2027 as if it were confirmed. It is not. The pattern is a May 31 cutoff about three years after release: 2021 ended May 31, 2024, 2022 ended May 31, 2025, and 2023 ended May 31, 2026 (that last one straight from Intuit). Plan for May 31, 2027 and treat anything later as a bonus.

Already on QuickBooks Desktop 2024 with an active subscription? Do nothing. You are supported, you are patched, and you have until roughly May 2027 before this is a decision. Renew and get on with your year.
Shopping for a new Desktop license in 2026? Enterprise is your only legitimate option. Every other listing is either a fraudulent site by Intuit’s own definition or a license that will never register.
